Evenings at the bakery

When looking for delicious artisanal bread in Durban, most folk know to visit the legendary Glenwood bakery. Famous for its fresh breads, ranging from ciabatta, baguette, sourdough bread, and my personal favourite, potato rosemary bread,  Glenwood bakery also makes great coffee and weekend breakfasts. Or if you’re disinclined to drive to Glenwood on a Sunday morning, you can also find them at the Morning Trade Market.

However, what’s less well-known of the bakery (except to the lucky people of Glenwood) is the “Evenings at the bakery”. Every Monday evening, the bakery is open from 5 pm to 8 pm serving freshly made classic pizzas and their famous ice creams. The menu changes every week (both in pizzas and ice creams) and new additions include starters, puddings and a bakery hamburger. No coffee or bread is served at night as the bakery takes on a more bistro feel. Patrons are encouraged to bring own drinks (remember this is not a restaurant), and most happily do.

If you’re not in the mood to soak up the chilled Glenwood air sitting outside or cosy communal seating inside, don’t despair, as the bakery also caters to take-aways. It’s quickly become my Monday night favourite, as Glenwood bakery makes the best Margherita pizza I’ve ever had! I know, that’s a huge statement. Try it and I’m sure you’ll agree 🙂

But it gets better. From this week the bakery will be open on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings with the same menu for the week. Those of you who missed tonight, you have two more chances this week to get it right.

This week’s menu.
Thin crust pizza smack full of natural goodness.

You can find the bakery at 398 Esther Roberts Road Glenwood, or their website at www.glenwoodbakery.co.za
